Crochet Child's Poncho | Fashion

I made these for my two nieces who are 10 and 4 years old. It’s a really easy pattern with a granny square type repetition. I modified this pattern from Hook, Yarn, and Needles the Old Stuff. The link is no longer working.

The PDF version of this pattern is available on Ravelry and Etsy. Thank you in advance for your contribution to my site!

Materials: I used 4 skeins of Red Heart Boutique Treasure in Spectrum (151 yards a skein x 4 = 604 yards)

Size H 5mm Crochet Hook

Tapestry Needle

Abbreviations:

ch – chain

sc – single crochet

hdc – half double crochet

dc – double crochet

sl st – slip stitch

To watch a video tutorial on how to work hdc foundation click here.

Finished measurements for the two that I made are as follows: For my 10-year-old niece: 19″ from the front top down to the front bottom corner and 27″ for one side of the “square”.

For my 4-year-old niece: 13″ from the front top down to the front bottom corner and 20″ for one side of the “square”.

Row 3: ch 1, sc in same stitch and each remaining stitch around, sl st to first sc

Row 4: ch 3, dc in next 2 stitches, *ch 1, skip 1 stitch, dc in next 3 stitches, three times, ch 2, skip 2 stitches, dc in next three stitches, repeat from * ending with a ch 2 then sl st to top of first ch 3

Row 5: ch 3, 2 dc around ch 3 into the last chain 2 space from previous round, *ch 1, 3 dc in each ch 1 space, 3 dc ch 2 3 dc in each ch 2 space, repeat from * around sl st to top of beginning ch 3

Keep repeating row 5 until desired length.

*Notes: I can fit both of these ponchos over my head, the smaller one is a bit confining for my taste but is not too tight so if you want to make it bigger you would just continue the rows until the length was good. I personally would go with a bit bigger size around the neck.
